Right — let’s just settle what must currently be the internet’s dumbest debate: Who “owns” the Petronas Twin Towers?

After playing a Samsung event in Kuala Lumpur’s W Hotel, DJ Soda, whose real name is So Hee Hwang, did a few tourist activities in an around the city, including visiting Batu Caves, playing with monkeys, thanking our kind police officers, and of course, a token snap in front of the city’s iconic Twin Towers.

Look! She posted not one, but two photos, one stating the city she was in, and another claiming she bought a couple of inexpensive fish-eye lenses to take the pics.

Seems fairly straightforward; however, one pic in particular of DJ Soda wearing a traditional, yellow baju kebaya has sparked a maelstrom of comments claiming that both the outfit, and subsequently the buildings, belonged to Indonesia.

Ok, let’s sort this out once and for all, shall we? While the kebaya certainly originated centuries ago in Indonesia, where it is the national dress, it’s also popular in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, southern Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines.

Let’s take this into another context — fashion history time: mercenary edition.

Croatian soldiers serving in the French army popularized the cravat in the 16th century, and like many men’s fashions of the day, trends trickled down from the military, to royal courts and beyond. Kings and nobles starting wearing them, and they would continue to be popular for centuries, eventually morphing into modern-day neckties. Sure, Croatia can technically lay claim to the cravat, and they even have a Cravat Day (Oct. 18), but a lot of people also wear variants around the world and they aren’t necessarily in Croatia anymore, nor are they Croatian. You vibe, netizens? Learn something new, at least?

Next point. OK! Looking out the window, sitting in an office in Kuala Lumur, we can just about make out the Twin Towers through the cloudy skies. They are definitely in Malaysia, in KLCC and currently owned by KLCC Property Holdings.

Cool. Sorted? On to the next one!
