Soon-to-wed couple dies in head-on collision near Dungun

They were due to tie the knot soon, but their fairytale wedding did not materialise as a soon-to-wed couple was killed in an accident near Dungun early Monday morning.

According to The Star Online, the incident happened at the 88th kilometre of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kemaman when the couple – Che Sukiman Che Rahim, 41, and Nur Ashikin Mohamed, 23 – was travelling to Paka at about 2am.

Nur Ashikin reportedly lost control of the Proton Wira at a curve and swayed into the opposite lane before colliding head on with another car driven by Wan Mohd Shazrul Azri Wan Omar, 26.

As a result of the crash, Nur Ashikin was reportedly pinned to the driver’s seat while Che Sukiman was found some 3m away from the vehicle.

Both Nur Ashikin and Che Sukiman reportedly died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Dungun police chief Supt Ahmad Zailani Yaakub told the news portal that a team of firemen rushed to the scene and removed Nur Ashikin’s body from the car.

The couple’s bodies were sent to the Kemaman Hospital for a post-mortem.

Wan Mohd Shahrul, meanwhile, is currently being treated at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.

Supt Ahmad added that the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
