Pupils of a religious primary school in Johor Baru ran for their lives when a freak storm ripped off the roof of their school on Sunday.
According to The New Straits Times, six pupils were injured when the roof of the two-storey building, located in Taman Selesa Jaya, was ripped off in the 4.15pm incident.
The six students, one girl and five boys aged between nine and ten, were reportedly studying in the classroom at the time of the incident.
“They all suffered minor injuries to the face and hand, save for one nine-year-old who was struck by a nail which landed in his back.
“Our emergency and rescue unit rushed all the six victims to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital,” Johor Baru Civil Defence Department (JPAM) officer Lieutenant Mohd Aziz Jupri was quoted as saying.
Mohd Aziz added that the storm completely ripped off the roof, leaving a huge gap on the ceiling as debris rained on the students.
“Water rushed in and chipped wood panels were scattered on the floor,” he was further quoted as saying.
