Singaporean fined 10K for being rude to Malaysian Immigration

A forty-two year old Singaporean woman, Quek Chin Fern, has been convicted of obstructing a Malaysian Immigration 12 August 2016.  She was accused of a being rude to an officer while being processed at the exit lane of the Sultan Iskandar CIQ in Gelang Patah, at 3:30pm.

To add insult to injury, her two children were present to observe, and learn, from her exchange of manners. However, the two were acquitted and discharged. It seems that in crossing the border, someone left their manners at home.

Judge Salawati Djambari gave her the maximum sentence possible, which was a RM10,000 (US$2,500) fine, or 6 months prison, if unable to pay the fine.

Last year, a similar incident of rudeness at the border made headlines, when a Malaysian motorcyclist was accused of throwing his passport at Singaporean border officials. They retaliated with a verbal tirade that later went viral. The officer later blamed his reaction on “uncivil” Malaysian behavior. Mmhmm.

Stay classy, Singapore.
