Selena No-mez: PAS wants pop star barred from entering country

US pop star Selena Gomez is set to perform in Malaysia in less than a week’s time, which means that it’s high time for PAS Youth to say something about it.

And say something they did, as PAS Youth has reportedly voiced its disapproval of the pop star’s ‘The Revival Tour’ concert in Malaysia.

The political wing’s dakwah committee chairman Hafez Sabri told The Star Online that the 23-year-old’s appearance is “too sexy”, and her image would tarnish the holy month of Syawal.

“The presence of the American-born singer, who is synonymous with sexy appearances, would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal which is being celebrated in earnest and further stoke the hedonistic culture among the country’s youths,” Hafez said in a statement cited by the news portal.

He added that he was disappointed that the local authorities had given the organisers the green light to hold the concert at Stadium Melawati in Shah Alam on July 25.

Hafez also reportedly urged the state Islamic religious council to issue an official letter to call off Selena’s concert.

“It is a priority and the responsibility of PAS Youth to ensure that there are no elements which can destroy the younger generation. Hence, we are committed to opposing such a concert,” he was further quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has assured fans that Selangor will not ban the concert.

Azmin told The Malay Mail Online that as long as the event organisers meet all the requirements set by the local authorities, there’s no reason to call off the gig.

The outspoken minister has also slammed PAS Youth’s statement, saying that sex appeal was not an attribute that should be maligned.

“Sexiness is God’s creation and subjective, do not be over excited by it, most (of her fans) are drawn by the song lyrics delivered by the particular singer,” he was quoted as saying.
