Reuters: “Burning wreckage, dozens of bodies” at MH17 crash site in Ukraine

Dozens of bodies could be seen scattered amidst burning wreckage at the crash site of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in Grabovo, Ukraine, according to a Reuters report.

At least 100 bodies had been found so far at the site, according to an emergency services worker. Debris from the plane crash was spread across an area of up to 15km in diameter.

A Ukrainian separatist rebel from nearby Krasnyi Luch identifying himself as only Sergei said, “From my balcony I saw a plane begin to descend from a great height and then heard two explosions.”

He denied that separatist rebels had shot the jetliner down.

“This could happen only if it was a fighter jet or a surface-to-air missile (that shot it down),” he told Reuters, saying the rebels did not have weapons capable of shooting shoot down a plane at such a height.

A Ukrainian Interior Ministry official said all 295 people on board Flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, had perished in the crash. The Ukraine government blames “terrorists” using a ground-to-air missile for the tragedy.

Ukraine’s prime minister called the downing of Flight MH17 a “catastrophe”.
