A massive fire nearly destroyed a plastic recycling factory completely last night.

The fire at the Bandar Sultan Sulaiman industrial area in Port Klang was put out within 16 minutes after firefighters arrived at the scene. No casualties were reported, according to the local fire department, and the cause of the blaze, which had involved plastic items, has yet to be determined.

“We have controlled the fire from spreading to the next building,” Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis told reporters. “Alhamdulillah, currently no casualties have been reported, and the workers in the building are believed to have managed to evacuate to safety. Fire-fighting is now in full swing.”

Norazam added that nearly 90% of the building was damaged. He was alerted to the fire at around 9pm but believed that the incident began much earlier. Firemen got the flames under control with the help of five fire trucks and six water tankers, he said. Workers were believed to have evacuated the property.

“We also mobilized about 60 personnel and officers for this operation,” he later told Bernama.

A 30-minute-long video of the incident, which has since been viewed more than 100,000 times on Facebook, showed huge orange-hued plumes of smoke billowing in the distance, as onlookers watched the raging flames from the highway.
