In the wake of the country’s much discussed Anti-Fake News bill, comes just the kind of social media “story” that it’s meant to dissuade.
This tale has got everything: allegations of imports from China, detached limbs, criminal underworld associations and – if you think about it for 10 seconds – a storyline that makes absolutely no sense.
Prime Minister Najib Razak has weighed in on the matter, rightly telling the public that there was absolutely zero credence in an image circulating of plastic fingers. Social media users were purporting that the fingers had freshly arrived from China, and were to be part of a web of voter deceit.
Fifteen million plastic pinkies would presumably be used by individuals to cast multiple ballots. With bulk-bought, Chinese-made, fake fingertips.
Hahaha. Oh geez, now we’ve heard it all. Who shares this garbage?
Y’all know those only work if you have an ACTUAL finger missing, right? It’s not like a prosthetic leg can be used to hide your real leg, RIGHT?
According to our PM, the fake fingers were from another story about how Japanese yakuza gangsters are being given prosthetic digits to replace the ones they’ve chopped off to atone for their failures or indiscretions.
What? OK, we take it back – we haven’t heard it all. There’s still a lot more crazy to hear, like this yakuza rehabilitation story. BRB. Googling now.
