Petty trader in Gua Musang dies after being struck by lightning

A 52-year-old man was found dead at a barn in front of his house in Kampung Tanah Puteh, Gua Musang on Wednesday.

According to a report by Bernama, the victim, indentified as Syamsudin Muda, is believed to have been struck by lightning while he was outside peeling off ‘kelubi’ fruits.

Gua Musang police chief Superintendent Rajab Ahad Ismail told the news agency that Syamsudin was alone in the barn when the incident happened.

“Initially, his child thought Mohd Syamsudin was asleep as he was covered in a blanket,” Supt Rajab was quoted as saying.

When his wife went back to the barn to check on him later, he had stopped breathing.

Supt Rajab said initial investigations revealed that Syamsudin sustained injuries in his abdomen and thighs, and he had died on the spot at around 7pm.

His body was reportedly taken to the Gua Musang Hospital for a post mortem before being claimed by the family for burial on Thursday morning.
