A team of firemen rescued 15 cats from an apartment fire in Penang yesterday.
The fire occurred in the Puncak Erskine apartment fire at Tanjung Bungah, a suburb on Penang Island.
Local fire and rescue department chief Mohd Ridzuan Ramli told the press that they received a distress call about the fire at 11.50am.
“We rushed 17 firefighters to the scene. When we reached the place, the fire had razed about 30% of the apartment unit on the tenth floor,” he said.
“We managed to save 15 cats from the apartment, which we believe belongs to the owner.”
The fire and rescue department did not disclose further information about the incident including the whereabouts of the owner. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
Photos posted online showed the cats after the rescue, some of them appear to be tabbies, and placed in a cage for safety. No casualties were reported from the fire, and all 15 felines were reported to be in good health.
