Hey, the prankster was just trying to make your Monday a little less blue.
An image of an advertising billboard with the word ‘ganja’ (marijuana) in it has been widely circulated on social media.
The billboard was put up by insurance provider AIA to promote its full-scale wellness programme.
However, when the photo went viral online, Netizens were shocked to see the text: “Pilih Sihat. Dapatkan Ganja” (Choose to be healthy. Get marijuana.)
You must be thinking: ‘It has to be a typo, right? How can an insurance company promote marijuana using a freaking huge billboard?’
Well Sherlock, you’re absolutely right!
It turns out that the billboard was digitally-altered.
An online prankster decided to put his Photoshop skills to good use by editing the wordings from it’s original text of “Pilih Sihat. Dapatkan Ganjaran” (Choose to be healthy. Get rewards.)
While a majority of the Netizens seem to appreciate the humour, well, let’s just say not everyone is pleased with the little joke.
The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) corporate communications director Haniza Abd Hamid, speaking to Harian Metro, has condemned the “irresponsible” act.
Haniza urged Netizens to not spread the image under the assumption that it was real and that the billboard had been approved by MBPJ.
The act, she added, was an attempt to smear MBPJ’s reputation.
“I hope people will not share the digitally-altered image further,” she was quoted as saying.
