Netizens say ‘ghost’ was in Parliament yesterday: Minister explains that’s his friend

Malaysia’s newly sworn-in unity minister P. Waythamoorthy has expressed disappointment over swirling rumors propagated yesterday during parliamentary sessions that a “ghost” was in the public gallery.

The “mercurial figure” whose image went viral, with even a local daily jumping on the haunted bandwagon of a mystery in the bleachers, is in fact Wayatha’s friend, Arunchalanandaji, who he invited to see him be appointed as a senator.

Explaining that Arunchalanandaji, a non-Indian national who lives on a mountainside in India, had dedicated the last 30 years of his life to the pursuit of world peace. Wayatha invited him out of respect for his altruistic life in search of world peace and communal harmony, saying that it was an honor to have him grace the ceremony.

Social media users were less nuanced when photos emerged of Arunchalanandaji in the gallery, with many mistaking his ash-marked face, and long hair, for that of a ghost.

Apparently ghosts have nothing better to do than hang out in a parliament where the likelihood of a walkout at any given time is 50/50.
