Facebook user Kim Tham has taken to the popular Facebook group The Republic of Bangsar to report that a friend of theirs was jogging along Lorong Maarof when the were struck by a car. Running over the victim’s right leg, the driver then left the scene without stopping.
Writing that they were unable to move after being struck, a motorcyclist stopped by the roadside and asked for the victim to pass their phone. Thinking that they would call for help, they instead took the phone and left. Eventually, good Samaritans came to the victim’s aid, and they were sent to hospital for treatment.
Asking for drivers to be careful, Kim added that Lorong Maarof is a popular road, but narrow and largely residential.
While we’ve reached out to Kim for more details on the matter, our readers will recall that last week, a harrowing incident occurred where two female students were attacked, and one stabbed, at night walking home from their nearby jobs in the Telawi area of the upscale Bangsar neighborhood. Both women reported that several neighbors were unwilling to help the two.
One of the victims, Susmita Asad commented on the post, saying that since the attack, instead of receiving messages of compassion, many netizens instead questioned why she was walking so late at night, her gender and what her visa status in Malaysia was.
“Rather than looking for the criminal,” the victim of the vicious attack sarcastically suggested that criminals should take to reading the comments section to see how “supportive” society can be.
Goodness, our hearts go out to Susmita, and we hope that she and her friend are able to recover.
