A group of ex-pat Malaysians have taken the country’s late-night favorite, slash next morning regret, the Ramli burger to the prime time in New York City.
Calling themselves The Malaysian Project, they’re serving the low-key delight at New York City street festival, and putting their own twist on it by wrapping it in an egg. Popular culinary chroniclers INSIDER food profiled the group, and their owner Calvin Leong.
Adding their own blend of curry seasonings, spicy mayo, and Worcestershire sauce, they’re calling it a “Malaysian-style burger.”
It’s basically what we here know far and wide as the iconic Ramli burger.
All over Malaysia, you’ll see the burger served seasoned with a Maggi spice blend, chili sauce, mayo, and between two slices of bread that must sloppily disintegrate within two to three bites. If you got a grip, it ain’t legit.
A good ol’ Ramli burger will set you back RM5 (US$1.25) at Ampang’s finest stalls.
In New York? Be prepared to fork over US$12 (RM51).
Cheaper than a plane ticket to KL, and certainly welcome to anyone missing a taste of home.
