The man who masturbated and harassed three women at a store in a Kelantan mall has been arrested and taken to a nearby hospital for mental health treatment.
The 26-year-old suspect was taken to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital days after he was caught on camera jerking off at a mobile phone store on Wednesday afternoon in front of the women who worked there. The pantless man then harassed the store employees, who later managed to escape. One of them lodged a police report.
Police said that the man was recently treated for depression at the same hospital.
“The suspect has been brought to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for immediate treatment. He was previously warded there for depression,” Criminal Investigations Department head Wan Khairuddin Wan Idris told reporters yesterday. He added that the unidentified man would be investigated for outraging the modesty of his victims, which covers flashing. It carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail.
The minute-long surveillance footage of the incident that has since gone viral began with the man already standing in front of two women from over the counter and appearing to be masturbating. The man, who was wearing an orange t-shirt printed with the words “Error 404,” then tried to jump over the counter. When he failed, he went around it to get to the other side but the two women – who were joined by another staff – managed to flee the scene.
The store was located at the Pantai Timur Shopping Centre in the Kota Bharu.
