A senior citizen was believed to have been killed by his brother-in-law after waking him up at 2:15am, and asking him to leave his Ipoh home earlier this week.

Angry at having been woken, and embarrassed at having been asked to leave, the brother-in-law allegedly attacked the 62-year-old victim, hitting him with a broom and umbrella until he was dead.

Police report injuries to the victim’s head, back, and face.

Initially, the suspect presented himself at an Ipoh-area police station, and claimed that he and his grandson had been attacked by the victim. However, after questioning by police, the man is believed to have admitted to the crime, and then accompanied officers to the house, where they found the dead body.

Having moved in to the victim’s house a month ago, the two men are reported to have been at loggerheads with each other over the arrangement.

Seizing an umbrella, broom, umbrella holder and broomstick as alleged murder weapons, police have also arrested the man on suspicion of murder.

Background checks of both men show that each had a previous rap sheet with authorities, with the victim have six drug and criminal cases brought against him, while the suspect had a brush with the law for possession of theft.

Police also believe that the suspect received extensive treatment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, a mental healthcare facility, in the 1990s, and are seeking confirmation on the matter.
