A bank officer was fined RM4,500 (US$1,070), in lieu of four months jail, for threatening to set fire to a petrol station.
Well, that’s one way to get someone’s attention.
The man, S. Shashitaran, 29, plead guilty to claiming he would set the Damansara-Puchong Expressway Shell petrol station ablaze, at 12:30pm on September 17. The threat was directed to a Muhammad Daniel Roslan, a pump attendant.
Considering the pornographically flammable nature of petrol, Muhammad Daniel was probably very, very worried.
Police found that S. Shashitaran was drunk when he went to the station to refill his tank with RM20 worth of petrol. Upon completing the fill, he then refused to pay the attendant (charming!) and then pushed him.
He then, valiantly, held a lighter and claimed that he would set the station alight. He didn’t, and the police were called.
His lawyer begged for leniency and told the magistrate that his client was remorseful, and a fine was meted out.
If you’re drunk by noon, and threatening to set a Shell on fire, it might be time for more than just remorse, and maybe some rehab. Just a thought.
