A seven-times married Sabah man was arrested last night, three days after allegedly physically assaulting his newlywed wife, and his son from a previous relationship. Using barbells, fists, and feet, he beat both the wife and child in a heated argument Sunday night after she attempted to run away from home.

The incident occurred at their home in Kampung Tabanak, near Lahad Datu.

Police say that the 26-year-old victim reported to them that she had been abused for quite some time, and had finally decided to run away as she could no longer take the violence. When the husband foiled the plan, he began to punch her in the head, and kicked her in the face. He then assaulted her with a barbell and began to throw weights at her. He did the same to his own child.

Both were “bruised and swollen from the assault,” and both eventually were able to go to a nearby police station to fine a report.

Investigators arrested the man at 10:45pm last night, and revealed that the man had only just married the victim this February, marking his seventh marriage to date. He is currently unemployed, while the victim is a housewife.

Police are holding him in remand while they conduct their investigations.
