Hot off the heels of the story that a BBC crew member nearly died from a spider bite while shooting here in Malaysia, is tragic news that a Malaysian woman traveling in Turkey was not so lucky.

Noor Azmeera Sahudin, a 27-year-old traveling through the country with her family between September 16 – September 24, died after being taken to an Istanbul hospital.

The victim’s travel company, ICB Tours Corporation Sdn Bhd, confirmed that after a balloon ride in Cappadocia, Noor Azmeera unknowingly sustained a bite.

Only after three days did she notice the wound, and subsequent pain, that now ran through her leg.

Taken to a hospital in Bursa, two hours from Istanbul, the doctor there have her a course of antibiotics.

However, the pain soon spread to her waist, and she was taken to Istanbul General Hospital. It was here that doctors confirmed that the poison had spread to her torso, and could not be helped.

She passed away at 9:00pm last night.

Her tour operator added that her family’s tickets had been extended, and she would be buried in Turkey.

While Turkey does have a few venomous spiders, including the brown recluse spider, the black widow and the yellow sac spider, there are few cases of being bitten by them.

However, warnings that they’re found along the southeastern coastline, and inland, where Noor Azmeera had traveled, should be heeded and if you are bitten, or notice a strange bite, doctors advise you to get to the hospital within 24 hours.
