Australia’s Border Force (ABF) denied a Malaysian man entry into the country after a check of his baggage, and also telephone, revealed materials that showed “extreme sexual depravity and horrific violence.

Immigration officials have broad authority to search items entering the country, and can request that you unlock your digital devices should they have reason to search based on individualized suspicion of illegal activities.

The unnamed 43-year-old man flew from Kuala Lumpur to Perth on Wednesday, and was subsequently detained after officials uncovered the materials. His tourist visa was canceled, and his phone confiscated.

While no explicit details of what content would result in barring entry into a country, Western Australia’s ABF commander said the images were “abhorrent and contravened Australian regulations,” with “horrific violence.”

He was held in detention until today, and subsequently put on a plane and sent back to Malaysia.

Great – so in other words, he’s our problem. Again.
