Tempering expectations of an eminent a Jho Low arrest in after rumors swirled that he had been apprehended, the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing has stated that they have not been given any information as such.

“So far, we at the embassy have not received any information on Jho Low’s arrest,” said an embassy source.

Local and international media outlets reported unconfirmed claims this week that Low had been arrested by Chinese authorities. News portal The Sarawak Report had previously stated that a Hong Kong radio station had published the claims on Wednesday afternoon.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officials have issued a warrant for Low’s arrest, requested an Interpol red warning, and successfully petitioned that his passport be revoked by the Immigration Department in an attempt to zero-in on the elusive, fugitive financier. He is wanted for questioning in relation to his role  allegedly helping siphon billions in funds from the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund.

However, Low’s travel limitations are as hindered as MACC authorities would have hoped – he is said to be traveling using a second passport, issued by the Caribbean nation of St Kitts and Nevis.

Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, the Inspector-General of Police, has also reiterated the embassy’s claims that he has received no information on any sort of Low’s arrest.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Malaysian officials missed a window to arrest Low when he arrived in Hong Kong. The extravagant gift-giver reportedly then made his way to casino-hub enclave Macau, and left only last week for a destination unknown.
