LRT services disrupted in morning fire

This morning’s commute to work on the LRT would have been an eventful one for many. And not in a good way.

Smoke engulfed one of its coaches as the train approached the Setiawangsa station, alarming passengers this morning, the New Straits Times reports.

Quoting KL Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Azizan Ismail the daily reports that five firemen were sent to the scene from the Keramat fire station after a distress call was received at 8.31am.

“We arrived at the scene seven minutes later and saw heavy smokes at one of the four coaches.

“At that time, LRT staff has emptied the coach and the train were moved to a safer place,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the initial checks showed the cause of the fire to be a faulty brake.

The fire was put out at 9.20am, the NST reports.

Meanwhile, another LRT on the Kelana Jaya line went through a spot of trouble with its brakes this afternoon, near the Universiti station. The issue was revolved by 12.45pm.
