It was just another quiet Saturday morning at the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Al-Hidayah in Kampung Batu 7 Lekir until villagers caught two men stealing coconuts from a tree.
The owner of a local grocery store spotted the men climbing a five-metre tree, according to The Star. He alerted the villagers who acted quickly to apprehend the coconut thieves and proceeded to tie them up — to a coconut tree.
“They admitted to have taken the coconuts and we then tied them both up to the tree using the rope they had utilised to pluck the fruit,” said former village head Mohd Yaacob Hashim in The Star.
According to Mohd Yaacob, they found more coconuts in the thieves’ Proton Wira, but were unsure if those were stolen as well. He added that the thieves ‘begged to be released’ and said they have never stolen coconuts until the incident.
“We tied the both of them while waiting for police to arrive, and we did not hit or hurt them. Who would have thought in this blessed month there were still people who performed immoral activities,” Mohd Yaacob said.
Let this be a lesson to all: Do not mess with villagers and their coconuts.
