Reports out of Japan’s Asahi Shimbun are linking the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, with having met a suspected US intelligence agent in Langkawi days before the murder.

The story emerged two weeks ago, but surfaced in Free Malaysia Today this morning.

Malaysian investigators have cited this meeting as one of Pyongyang’s motives “to silence him,” and have been pursuing the story.

Surfaced CCTV footage shows Jong Nam arriving to Kuala Lumpur alone, with a single black bag on 6 February, via Macau. He then traveled two days later to Langkawi, having kept his travel plans a secret.

The following day he met a Korean-American man, based in Bangkok. The two spent 2 hours inside a hotel suite before leaving. Later analysis of Jong-nam’s computer showed that a USB memory stick had been inserted in the time leading up to his death. Whether they were exchanging large amounts of information, or the latest season of House of Cards, is not known.

Parting ways, they were both scheduled to depart Kuala Lumpur on the same day. The suspected agent made his flight, and has since remained out of the country. Jong-nam was infamously assassinated at KLIA2 airport terminal, dying 20 minutes after he was poisoned with deadly nerve agent.

The Korean-American is a well-known figure to Malaysian authorities, and they believe that the man may be an acting US agent. When traveling in Malaysia, he is tailed by Malaysian security to monitor his meetings and dealings.

The exact motives for the assassination are still under investigation. Unlike the psychotic ex you once had, “crazy” just won’t cut it when understanding North Korea.
