They are called man’s best friend for a reason.

A dog probably saved the life of a newborn baby after it led its owner to a drain in Jinjang Selatan on Saturday.

According to a report by The New Straits Times, the dog made the discovery after its 16-year-old owner lets it out of the house compound at around 11am.

After letting the dog out, the student noticed that it kept barking at something near the drain.

“The teenager heard his dog barking. Curious, he went out of the house but found nothing suspicious,” Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner R. Munusamy told the daily.

Just as he was about to return home, the dog reportedly kept barking and it soon led the teenager to a drain some 10 meters from his house.

It was then the teenager reportedly found the baby boy, with this umbilical cord still intact, crying in a box.

R. Munusamy told the daily that the teenager immediately alerted the police.

The baby, said to be in a healthy condition, has reportedly been sent to Selayang Hospital for a check-up.
