Hooray! Federal Highway roadrunner ostrich rescued

Everyone’s favourite traffic-stopping, highway-blazing ostrich has finally been rescued.

Malaysiakini reports that the flightless bird, which caused some serious confusion among motorists on the Federal Highway around 3pm today, was caught unharmed and brought back to a farm in Semenyih.

The portal quoted a witness as saying that the bird, called Chickaboo, had somehow darted out of a truck near Universiti Malaya while it was being transported.

“We tried to block it with our car because we didn’t want it to get hit and the owner made a couple of rounds to look for it,” the witness, identified as Dr Rathimalar, told Malaysiakini.

“We called the Civil Defence Department but they did not manage to come in time,” she was quoted further.

She added that the ostrich was finally cornered and pinned down at around 4.15pm by two rescuers.

According to the report, a representative from the Ostrich Wonderland and Showfarm in Semenyih confirmed that the ostrich was safe, and clarified that it belonged to another farm. He also told Malaysiakini that the farm did not breed the birds for meat.

There you have it, folks. Our highway star is safe and sound.
