Home rental app SAYWA is the Airbnb for long-term home leasing

This article originally appeared on Vulcan Post Malaysia.

Are you currently searching for a new place to live because your current housemate set your cat on fire? Perhaps you have a place of your own to lease, because you had to kick out your previous tenants for watching very vocal ‘anime’ at maximum volume while you were sleeping.

Either way, SAYWA (a play on the word ‘sewa’, which means ‘rent’ in Malay) is what you need if you find yourself in such situations. The home rental app brings property owners and tenants together in one place, and is Malaysia’s first property rental app available on smartphones. With just a few taps here and there, property owners can post ads with details of their houses, as well as state what kind of tenants they prefer. SAYWA will then find suitable tenants for them. The best part of all? It’s free.

Property owners will have a much easier time trying to rent out their homes, as they can post ads about their property complete with details such as furnishing, addresses and even what facilities are available.

Potential tenants will also be able to look for houses based on their needs, and easily make offers for homes that match their preferences. This is thanks to a feature that allows you to send messages to homeowners directly, set viewing times and pick convenient time slots. You can even track your posts, offers and appointments on the in-app menu.

A Quick Walk-through

I downloaded SAYWA to see what it was all about. You have to register with your phone number, and once I got in, I was greeted with one of the sleekest, most well-designed user interfaces I have ever seen on a Malaysia-made app.

Properties available for rent are immediately available on the home menu itself, complete with images, details and pricing. A feature I found extremely handy was the search bar (conveniently located on the home screen), as it allowed me to look for properties in my preferred area without having to navigate anywhere else. You will, of course, need location services (i.e., data usage!) to be switched on in order to enjoy this feature.

Overall, the app is a pretty useful one, and with a bit of improvements and upgrades, I definitely see this app becoming one of the better platforms for us to rent and lease our homes.

The SAYWA app is now available for download on the Google PlayStore and AppleAppStore. They are currently running a soft launch campaign, where potential tenants enjoy a 50% discount on their first month of rental. The offer is valid only for the first 20 tenants who finalise their rental transactions, so do hurry!
