Your sea nightmares were realized last night after 432 ferry passengers were trapped on a sandbar near Kuala Perlis in the north of the country, yesterday.

The ship was on its way from Kuala Perlis to the nearby Langkawi island when it ran into trouble 0.8 nautical miles (1.5km to the rest of us land-lovers) outside of its embarkation point at 8pm.

Marine Police, Customs, and the Fire and Rescue department, pooled their resources together using local fishing boats to take the stranded passengers back to land.

Rest assured, officials confirm that the shipwreck’d ladies and gentlemen were well-fed during their ordeal.

Though the ferry ran aground at 8pm, it took officials another five hours before they could begin the process of unloading could begin. By 2:30am this morning, all passengers were reported clear.

Investigating how a regularly routed ship could have encountered such troubles, officials discovered that that high winds and rough seas had resulted in its course being deviated onto shallower waters.

Malaysian meteorological centers issued a week-long warning of tempestuous weather on Monday, and we’re just happy to be writing this information from the comforts of dry land.
