Four men were injured when a high-voltage wire electrocuted them as they tried to hang political party flags by hand at 1am yesterday morning.

National utility provider Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), had previously issues warnings to all political parties and their supporters, that putting flags on any of their premises was not only forbidden, but also against the law as per the Electricity Supply Act 1990.

It should also be mentioned that political canvasing of materials before the official campaigning date of April 28 is also illegal.

Malaysia is set to hold their 14th General Election May 9, and throwing caution to the legal winds, parties have already started raising flags across the country.

The incident occurred near Muar, Johor, when a group of ten men took it upon themselves to put their flags of support on an electrical line, using a bamboo pole. When they tried to then maneuver the pole and flags, they received the shock of their life, and were thrown several meters in the air. One of the men broke several ribs, while the others received minor injuries.

No word on which party’s flags the group were attempting to hoist onto some seriously powerful electric lines.

Honestly, they seem pretty lucky to be alive. Do you know how much voltage runs through those things?
