An ayam percik meal served up at the canteen of a boarding school in Johor has caused 34 students to be warded for food poisoning.
The New Straits Times said that the group of students from Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Batu Pahat began having headaches, vomitting, diarrhoea and fever just two hours after consuming the chicken dish on Tuesday evening.
Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat was quoted as saying tests on food samples indicted the presence of bacteria in the meal.
“Further investigation revealed that another 28 students also had the same symptoms, bringing the total number of students who needed outpatient treatment to 34,” he was quoted as saying.
The canteen has been ordered to close.
