Firemen rescue man buried in drain

A man who was reportedly buried alive at a construction site in Kampung Paya Beranang, Semenyih was rescued by firemen on Saturday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul told The Star Online‘s Nadirah H. Rodzi that Azwar Abdul Razak, 21, was carrying out pipe installation work near the drain when he became trapped.

“The soil at the edge of the drain suddenly began to crumble, that was how he was buried. It could be due to the heavy rain yesterday,” Mohd Sani was quoted as saying.

Mohd Sani told the news site that the department received a distress call at 1.33pm and a team of firemen was dispatched to the scene.

“We arrived at the scene about five minutes and immediately got to work, and we managed to rescue him with the help of the public as well,” Mohd Sani told The Star Online.

Azwar, who had been buried for between five and ten minutes, was reportedly freed in less than four minutes and was sent to the Kajang Hospital where he received treatment for his injured leg.
