Driver runs over JPJ officer with his trailer in freak accident near Shah Alam toll plaza

A Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer was killed in a freak accident near the Setia Alam toll plaza on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report by The Star Online, 32-year-old Mohd Ridzuan Yusuf was conducting an inspection exercise when a trailer ran over him.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat told the news portal that Mohd Ridzuan died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

During the incident, the victim, who was part of a four-man team carrying out a routine inspection, was reportedly stationed quite a distance away from his colleagues.

ACP Shafien revealed that the driver of the trailer, a man in his 60s, had stopped by the side of the road to make a phone call.

After making the phone call, the driver then started driving away, unaware that Mohd Ridzuan was near his vehicle.

“We think the driver was looking to his right as he was moving out,” ACP Shafien was quoted as saying.

An eyewitness who saw the incident alerted the victim’s colleagues, who reportedly had no idea what had happened.

Mohd Ridzuan’s remains were sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for a post-mortem.

ACP Shafien told The Star Online that they have detained the lorry driver and the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
