Dispose old mobile devices at 72 outlets nationwide

Got those old smartphones lying around the house? Here’s one way to dispose them.

Unused mobile devices including cell phones, tablets, chargers and accessories can now be disposed off at 72 telecommunications stores nationwide.

Bernama reports that the Maxis, Celcom, DiGi, Altel and U-Mobile also provide collection boxes for ‘e-waste’ as part of the Mobile e-Waste: Old Phone, New Life programme.

According to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Halim Shafie, mobile phones have an average lifespan of just two years, meaning that any device made prior to 2013 could be considered ‘expired’.

“That means there are millions of unused mobile devices still being kept in houses or have been disposed of in an unsafe manner,” he was quoted as saying.
