Disabled woman found neglected, living among rubbish and feces in Kelantan house

Local residents in Kampung Panchor, Kelantan, in the northeast of the country, alerted police to a disabled woman who was living amongst rubbish and human excrement in the kitchen of a neighborhood house.

Sinar Harian broke the story, saying she was discovered just last night, after a 48-year-old man was passing by the house when he spotted a woman lying on the floor. The gentleman said that upon closer approach, the smell coming from the house was putrid, and that he wondered if the woman on the ground was in fact dead.

After calling out to her, she made pained groans to indicate she was alive. Along with other neighbors, they contacted police, who arrived on the scene.

The middle-aged victim was found living on the floor, amongst empty food and drink containers, as well as human urine and feces. Police had to break down the kitchen door in order to access the woman. She has since been sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

An hour later, the victim’s younger sister appeared, and was taken into police custody.

The Malay-language daily has posted a video of the woman’s rescue here. The footage is heartbreaking, and will be disturbing, so proceed with caution:
