DAP parliamentarian wants to shut down Gardens International School because of traffic

DAP parliamentarian Lim Lip Eng spoke out today on the perceived omnipotence of the prohibitively expensive Gardens International School in a residential Mont Kiara, and its excessive traffic, calling for it to be shut down.

Um, excuse me, he doesn’t even go here.

Lim, the Segambut MP, an area that includes Mont Kiara and adjoining neighborhoods, told parliament that the needs of the select few that attend Gardens should not bear more influence than those of the greater public whose travel through Jalan Kiara 3, where the school is located, is being heavily affected.

He added it was not just his constituents that complained, but fellow MPs who found the neighborhood’s school runs and fleet of Rovers, impossible to navigate through.

Jalan Kiara 3 is often used as a way of passage to other Kuala Lumpur neighborhoods such as Kepong, Segambut, Damansara, and PJ.

Lim then treaded into contentious waters, singling out the “special treatment” given to those who attended  Gardens, whom he identified as foreigners. When pressed he conceded that the school also had a large local-student population.

Let’s agree that the road entitlement issue at one of Kuala Lumpur’s most elite schools is colorblind, and doesn’t have a passport, ok?

He then concluded that Kuala Lumpur City Hall should close down Gardens, and relocate it to a more suitable location to the tune of a cool RM70 million (US$17 million) in real estate fees to buy the school out.

Sorry Lim, probably not happening.
