A critically endangered sea turtle was found yesterday, strewn between rubbish and rocks in Pulau Melaka.

The hawksbill turtle was left stranded ashore after high tide brought him in and he was spotted by a member of the public, who contacted the Civil Defense Department to rescue it. It was later released back to the sea.

Melaka is the biggest nesting population in peninsular Malaysia for the endangered turle, with 400-450 nestings annually.

When asked what he planned to do with his new-found freedom, the turtle said that he was “gonna take it easy for a while” and “take it one day at a time.”
