Cops, suspected robbers in high-speed chase drama

Two suspected robbers and a police patrol car were engaged in a dramatic high-speed chase in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

According to The Star Online, policemen spotted the two men behaving suspiciously in their car in Taman OUG at 9.30am.

When the policemen approaced their car, the men reportedly sped off, ramming past several cars at the traffic light.

The patrol car managed to catch up with them at another traffic light, but it was reported that the robbers tried to ram the police car to get away.

“To defend themselves, my men fired eight shots, hitting two of the car’s tyres,” Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Sharul Othman Mansor told the news portal.

In a desperate attempt to escape the policemen, the suspected robbers continued driving on flat tyres. The high-speed chase ended when the suspects crashed into a curb several kilometers away.

The driver of the car – who reportedly has 15 prior cases involving robbery and house burglary and was on the police wanted list – was arrested but his accomplice managed to get away.

ACP Sharul told The Star that at least 14 cases of robbery and house break-ins were believed to have been solved with the arrest. The police are currently tracking down the other suspect.
