In a very freak accident, a policeman accidentally shot and killed his colleague during a routine pistol check, The Star Online reports.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias told the news portal that the freak accident happened at the police district’s weapons store at 9am on Friday.
The 32-year-old lance corporal was reportedly doing a routine pistol check at the time of the incident.
“After cocking the gun, he pulled the trigger as per the SOP (standard operating procedure).
“But he did not realise that a bullet was still in the chamber,” ACP Megat was quoted as saying.
The shot reportedly struck his colleague, 57-year-old police sergeant Sjn Abu Samah, in the head.
He was rushed to the Serdang Hospital but reportedly died a day later, ACP Megat said.
He added that the police did not rule out negligence as the cause of the death, and the police were investigating the case.
