Citizens at Johor food court rally against abusive man after he hits wife with bike helmet

A video of punters at a Johor food court taking a stand against a man they observed allegedly abusing his wife has gone viral over the last two days, having been watched over 700,000 times.

Although the footage only highlights the ensuing events and not the alleged assault, Mynewshub uploaded the video along with a caption indicating that fellow customers were reacting to having just witnessed the man hitting his wife with a motorcycle helmet.

The husband, wearing a blue shirt, is Indonesian, and is lucky to have made it out of there alive, considering the public began increasingly irater, looking like they were about to rough him up themselves at any given second.

It was the man’s wife, the victim, who eventually stepped in, begging by-standers not to drag him to the nearest police station.

One of those who confronted the man over his abuse told him, “You got away now because of your wife,” while another disgusted citizen asked him “Do you even sembahyang (pray)? If you do, why are you behaving like this?”

Hiding behind his wife, they eventually let the couple go.

Facebook commentators have praised the actions of bystanders, writing that spousal abuse was not tolerated and expressing pride that so many of our countrymen took a stand to defend the woman.

YES MALAYSIA. MORE OF THIS. LESS CASHIER BEATINGS. PEACE.
