Bodyguard opens fire on machete-wielding assailants in Chan Sow Lin

They say never bring a knife to a gunfight, but for someone hired to ensure the safety of a wealthy client, it’s always a good idea to have a pistol ready for a possible slashing attack.

That’s pretty much what happened at around 9am this morning, when a businessman buying breakfast at a roadside stall in Jalan Empat, off Jalan Chan Sow Lin, was assaulted by two men wielding parangs or machetes.

The attack, which also seemed to target the businessman’s associate, resulted in the associate’s bodyguard to unholster his firearm and open fire on the attackers.

The Star Online‘s M Kumar reports that one of the businessmen was slashed by the assailants before the gunfore erupted.

“The bodyguard took out his pistol and fired six, seven times at the attackers, hitting one them,” said Madam Wong, who owned the stall patronised by the victims.

“My nephew, who was helping around at the stall, was also hit in the buttocks by one of the bullets accidentally.”

The businessman and Madam Wong’s nephew were rushed to the hospital after the attack, as well as the assailant who was shot by the bodyguard.

The second assailant managed to escape.
