Bandar Tun Razak UMNO branch cancels appreciation dinner for Muhyiddin, “on HQ’s orders”

An appreciation dinner slated for tonight in honour of UMNO deputy president and former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin by the Bandar Tun Razak UMNO division has been cancelled, with the organiser claiming to have received a directive to that effect by UMNO top leadership.

Bandar Tun Razak UMNO deputy chief Saharuddin Zainal Abidin told The Malay Mail Online‘s Joseph Sipalan that his division was instructed to postpone the dinner event by party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor.

“We were told to postpone because there might be problems… we were told to wait until after tomorrow’s supreme council meeting,” he told MMO via phone conversation.

The UMNO Supreme Council will be meeting tomorrow morning, the first time it has done so since Prime Minister and UMNO President Najib Razak reshuffled his Cabinet, ousting in the process Muhyiddin and several other ministers deemed critical of the PM’s handling of the 1MDB scandal.

Najib and Muhyiddin were in attendance during yesterday’s UMNO political bureau meeting yesterday morning at the Prime Minister’s Office. It was the first time they had reportedly been in the same room since Muhyiddin’s dismissal.
