Bali prison escapees still not found: either drowned in tunnel or living the free life

It’s been three days since a daring, El Chapo-style escape by four inmates at Kerobokan Prison in Bali, and still no sign of any of them. One of the men was Malaysian syabu smuggler Tee Kok King, who was serving a 7-year sentence. The other men hail from Australia, Bulgaria and India.

Police finally managed to enter part of the escape tunnel that the men used to flee and found a torch, still on, despite three days having passed. Impressive staying power. Clothes and sandals were also found in the tunnel.

Heavy rains have meant that parts of the 12-meter long tunnel have not been accessible and there are fears that the men may have drowned. Police will today be entering the hole using scuba gear, and breathing apparatuses.

Bali Corrections chief Surung Pasaribu is not discounting that the men may have used other means to leave the prison, including jail gates, or leaving rubbish removal vehicles.

The tunnel had previously been used as a waste and water drain (save the oceans, kids), and exited the prison just under a guard tower. Turns out the guard tower was not manned, due to staff shortages at the prison.

So, there you have it: the escapees either died a water-y death Alcatraz style, or are slipper-less, half-naked and enjoying a piña colada in Kuta. You know that Aussie totally went to Kuta.
