Anti-crime activist Sanjeevan arrested under Prevention of Crime Act

Controversial anti-crime activist R. Sri Sanjeevan, who was arrested for alleged extortion last month, has been arrested again as police investigate claims of criminal intimidation and extortion.

A report by The Star Online said the Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force  (MyWatch) chairman Sanjeevan, 32, was detained at the Kajang district police headquarters at 4.30pm yesterday under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (POCA).

“Sanjeevan was detained under Section 3 (1) of POCA for another 60 days because he was believed to have committed criminal intimidation and extortion,” federal police D7 principal assistant director, SAC Roslee Chik was quoted as saying.

This was reportedly Sanjeevan’s seventh arrest since he was first caught on June 22 near the Nilai toll plaza for alleged extortion and criminal intimidation after the police received a report from the complainant. Arrested with him, was his driver, a 26-year-old Indian national.

The complainant alleged that Sanjeevan had threatened to publish accusations against him, unless he paid Sanjeevan RM25,000 in “protection” money.
