Travelers, and the dying-breed of folk who still send their family and loved ones to the airport, be warned: authorities will be issuing out RM300 (US$75) summons to illegally parked vehicles in and around Kuala Lumpur International Airport and KLIA2.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor told a press conference that traffic police would be aggressively ticketing haphazardly parked cars, as they were not only a traffic nuisance, but also infringed on the safety of others.

Mazlan added that a free parking area is provided by Malaysia Airports Bhd for motorists picking up or dropping off travelers. However, he said that current trends had many waiting along the roadside, at petrol stations and around other non-designated areas.

Officials will now be monitoring the area on foot, by car, and via CCTV, on the hunt for illegally parked vehicles. In addition to slapping cars with an RM300 fine, they will also be towing vehicles.

Coconuts KL editor’s note: Honestly, people – any kind of towing or clamping of your vehicle is not worth it. This is something we have learned more than once in our young life, and it’s a complete pain in the bum to sort out. Do yourself a favor and just go to the parking area. That is all.
