Air traffic control at Langkawi island’s airport gave permission for an AirAsia flight that had just departed en route to Kuala Lumpur to return to base following a request from pilots.
No exact cause of the nature of the problem has been given; however, all 156 passengers and crew on flight AK9327 were safe and the plane performed the turn-around without any further incident.
The regularly scheduled flight left Langkawi International (LIA) at 9:17am, intending to land at Kuala Lumpur’s klia2 an hour later. However, at 9:20am pilots contacted control tower and asked that the aircraft be allowed to land again.
As per standard operating procedures, three fire engines were on hand to greet the plane upon its return, but were not needed. Passengers were evacuated, and the flight was delayed to later today, leaving the island at 4:45pm.
AirAsia was in the news earlier this year, receiving the wrath of popular Malaysian cooking personality, Chef Wan, who took to his social media account to tell his hundreds of thousands of followers that the airline’s premium lounge food was not up to snuff. And that really has nothing to do with today’s incident, but we can’t resist a well-deserved swipe at watery sambal.
