Actress suggests novel explanation for entrepreneur’s panned film performance: He has no artistic talent

Aliff Syukri is a man in a spandex green superhero jumpsuit swimming upstream in a sea of critics, haters, and anyone with a modicum of taste who have all come to the conclusion that he shouldn’t quit his day job schilling teas and herbal supplements to become an actor.

Tempted to catch a glimpse of his widely-panned performance as the leading man in Badang? Love self-flagellation and put down your lunch for a minute? Be our guest:

Seems like not only laymen and hacks thought it was terrible: Professional actors are throwing shade as well.

Taking to Facebook, popular actress Amyza Aznan wasted no time in getting to the point regarding Syukri’s endeavors into the dramatic film medium, writing that his acting and singing were terrible because – quite simply – he did not have the artistic talent to do either.

Occam’s razor, the philosophical principle wherein the simplest explanation is usually the right one, rears its beautiful medieval head, once again.

That is to say, Syukri’s performance is generally accepted as bad because he cannot act; his singing is derided because he cannot sing.

Amyza wasn’t finished. She elaborated her point, saying that she hated seeing individuals with money invading the artistic space reserved for those with talent. She believes that they are only there to promote themselves, and their business.

Don’t forget their egos, Amyza!

The tirade was spotted in the comments section of well-known director Shahrulezad Mohameddin’s Facebook page. The director had made a post regarding Syukri’s ill-advised jump from vitamins to the silver screen, highlighting that negative commentary comes hand-in-hand with the film industry.

Even after 20 years as a director, he is still not immune, and more importantly, he is open to criticism.

Shahrulezad writes that it’s only through seeing things from another’s point of view that we can perhaps see the error in our ways.

Opening another umbrella to add some shade, he added that just because Syukri had money didn’t mean he could buy words of praise and admiration from people.

**Crunch goes our popcorn**

Badang, the movie at the center of all of this hoopla, is currently showing in cinemas, specifically at 3:15pm tomorrow in MidValley Mega Mall. See you there.
