Actress spends two days apologizing on social media after looking happy in hug with PM

Haters will say it’s photoshopped, and haters will apparently also say it’s “too friendly” if you look delighted to meet Malaysia’s nonagenarian prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Behold, readers: We give you #RayaHugGate, where one woman’s embrace spawned hundreds of shady comments.

Local actress Izara Aishah found herself on the receiving end of social media users’ ire and critique after posted a photo of herself and Dr M over the Raya holidays.

They referred to her as both “plastic” and “fake” for her joyful pic hugging the smiling PM.

Feeling pressure from a generally salty public who Raya celebrations were perhaps soberer, she then apologized for her post, saying that she was simply overwhelmed when she met her hero. She extended her apologies to the PM’s family, after the pictured stirred online controversy.

She then apologized some more:

Then a little bit more sidestepping commentary on the matter:

And finally, referencing that she never does the same wrong twice, which obviously doesn’t extend to saying soz:

Ok. All of those involved in this narrative need to get a life. Seriously? We’re too happy now? How many sorrys have to transpire for everyone to feel better?

Aiyo. New highs, new lows.
