Acid attack in peak rush hour traffic in the heart of Kuala Lumpur

A motorist has suffered serious injuries to his face and back after an acid attack in the heart of Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening.

Police received a call over the incident at 6:35pm, a peak rush hour time in the area, from a witness on the scene.

Alleging that he saw two men on a blue Yamaha 125cc motorbike approach an Audi sitting in traffic in front of Olympia Tower on Jalan Raja Chulan, he then saw one of the suspects hurl what he believed to be acid through a closed driver window. The chemical compound appears to have melted the glass.

The victim is a male, in his 40s, and he is currently in hospital receiving treatment for his burns that affected 20% of his back and the right side of his face. He is reported to be in stable condition.

While no motive for the attack has been established, police are looking into the possibility that it could be related to the man’s work on the bursa (stock market).

Investigators report that the suspects were wearing black jackets; however, their faces were obscured by helmets.
