DAP Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua has been barred from leaving the country, just as he was waiting to board a plane to Indonesia at KLIA2.
“I have been barred from leaving the country by the Immigration. I was stopped at the gate by the officers half hour ago when I was checking in,” he told The Malay Mail Online‘s Kamles Kumar.
When asked if the travel restriction by the Immigration Department was in connection to allegations by former Sarawak Tribune journalist Lester Melanyi that he had colluded in allegedly doctoring documents on sovereign development fund 1MDB, Pua merely said, “What do you think?”
Pua has been one of 1MDB’s most vociferous critics, and is in a position to actually do something about it, as he serves as a member of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The PAC is currently conducting an investigation into possible wrongdoing within 1MDB, which is fully owned by the Finance Ministry.
Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is also Finance Minister, serves as the chairperson of 1MDB’s board of advisers.
