Shah Alam businessman loses RM500,000 to “Latin American robbers”

A company director is now short by almost half a million ringgit after being mugged by a group of men in front of a warehouse in Section 15, Shah Alam, yesterday evening.

Shah Alam district deputy police chief Superintendent Ruslan Abdullah told Sinar Harian that the 3.20pm incident occured when the 42-year old victim was driving into Section 15 in his Ford Ranger.

“The victim was then hailed down by three men, believed to be Latin Americans, in a BMW, who signalled to him that his rear tyre was deflated,” Ruslan said.

When the victim pulled over to inspect his tyre, one of the three robbers opened the victim’s car door and extracted a suitcase located on the rear passenger seat behind the driver’s seat.

Ruslan said that prior to the incident, the victim had withdrawn RM449,000 in cash from a bank in Subanhg Jaya, and kept it in the suitcase.

Apart from the cash, the robbers also took a mobile phone, a laptop, and several documents belonging to the victim.
